King of the Hook first began in 2001, when some instructors wanted to show off some freestyle moves. Not the latest flacka, vulcan, spock type moves; we're talking duck tacks, rail rides, and other old school moves that they'd learned while windsurfing with beginning students inside the Hook.
Since then we've found local sponsors to donate prizes for the event. Kids and pros have joined the fun, and it is now a Gorge-wide event. The goal is to bring together all types of windsurfers for a good old fashioned evening of goofy fun and entertainment. Everybody's encouraged to join in the festivities by dressing up, answering trivia questions, and even getting on a board and competing! Since it is on longboards, only a slight breeze is needed.
Come on down to the Hook in Hood River on August 25th and remember: Have fun. Dress up. Tell a joke. Bring your original gear, and get ready to get wet and wild!
